about the project
Negah Publishing Institute has been one of the most reputable and main publishing companies in Iran over the past 40 years.
This institute has published more than 3,000 print titles of the most well-known Iranian writers, poets, and translators. Negah bookstore is the first retail store operated by this publishing company located at Karimkhan Street, Tehran, Iran.
In this project a 40 square meters delicatessen has changed to a bookstore.
In order to provide the best circulation and function distribution in a small space, store’s showcases blend into a staircase in the center of the store to create an inviting form facing the entrance and connect the main floor to the mezzanine.
Moreover, in this bookstore Islamic architecture traces is evident in the materials and forms selections. The arches, which are visible in the facade and interior design, reminds of Sassanian-era and Gondishapur library and the glossy hammered finish of the Pietra stone as the dominant material in the store depicts the juxtaposition of old and new. Existing ceiling bricks are retained and an exposed detailed metal structure forms bookshelves as well as the hidden lighting covers
