About the Project:
When the client approached us to design the facade of an apartment project in Lahijan (a project with its columns already built and part of its walls erected), we were unable to make volumetric changes to the project. However, we didn't want to limit the facade design to merely playing with materials and creating purely two-dimensional effects. We believe that the facade of an apartment building is not just a two-dimensional skin to be applied over a cubic volume.
In the middle of the project (the pedestrian entrance), there was a garden with a tree, and we wanted this green space to be integrated into the project. Additionally, we aimed for a clear entrance with visual contrast to the rest of the building.
Thus, we began the design by creating a void in the middle. This space, with a significant contrast to the rest of the building, was accompanied by a tree, enhancing the dichotomy and contrast.
We presented various options to the client, including colored glass, wood, and brick. We explored designs with curved lines and surfaces as well as designs with straight and beveled lines and surfaces.
The client's requirements included large windows and openings. However, continuous windows on the first floor raised security and privacy concerns. Therefore, a movable layer was needed to control the view and ensure security.
Considering these factors, we eliminated options with colored glass, and the final design was selected.
