The Empty Space of Plasco: A Symbolic Reminder
In 2017, in Tehran, Iran, an old tower collapsed and was destroyed due to a fire. This project is designed on the site of that building, in its empty space.
Accidents happen... They leave scars... They get forgotten.
We don't want Plasco to be forgotten.Preserving the empty space of Plasco serves as a constant reminder for the city's residents to demand quality, safety, and security in the spaces they occupy. It also raises awareness of the role each individual plays in preserving the life of every building and person.
The empty space of Plasco will be an open urban area for contemplation, presence in the reality of the place, and creating a courtyard to revive life in Plasco.
The surrounding structure consists of four sections:
Middle Section: The empty space of Plasco as an urban courtyard, an entrance to the complex, and a symbolic place of remembrance for the hardworking and fallen victims.
Northern Section: Part of the remaining Plasco building that is relatively intact and can be reused.
Eastern Section: An additional part of the project site built in proportion to the remaining section and the required area.
Western Section: The ramp-gallery "Tower of Ascension" memorial, a space dedicated to the hardworking firefighters for public presence.
The facades of the "Empty Space of Plasco" consist of a series of terraces with irregular shapes, broken lines, and solid walls that evoke the violence of the disaster and debris. Behind these walls, and through them, we reach the transparent and structured volume surrounding it. This contrast translates the extreme destruction of Plasco into a space of revival.
The central empty space of the project provides a sense of psychological security and allows evacuation to the street from the three mentioned directions.
