  • Design and Restoration Process:

In our projects, we try to incorporate elements from the project's context and traditional regional architecture, but unfortunately, it often isn't feasible. Most clients prefer classical Roman or modern styles, and few show interest in reflecting the heritage of this declining country in their architecture.

However, this project's clients, a young couple—one a ceramic artist and the other a skilled programmer—had a different perspective. They purchased land in an old, characterful neighborhood in Rasht (Sagharisazan) and wanted the design to evoke a sense of traditional Iranian architecture.

The existing building on the site was old and dilapidated, dating back to the 1950s, with no particular architectural features worth preserving, except perhaps its wooden, arched windows, which were unfortunately too decayed to use.

While Gilan's architecture is not typically known for arches and curves, but rather for sloped roofs, we found that such elements did exist historically. Inspired by the old building's window forms, we based our design on similar historical structures, as shown at the beginning of the project's video.
